Experience the Nou Camp first hand! – FC Barcelona Schedule

La Liga 2010 goes to Barça

The sound and flash of fireworks interrupted the night sky on Sunday night as Barcelona celebrated its favourite team taking the Spanish league title for the second year running.

With a single point between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, the galacticos could only win if they won their match AND Barcelona didn’t win theirs. While Barça’s match against Valladolid started nervously and with their first goal being an own goal from the visitors, elsewhere Real Madrid helped by losing two points with a 1-1 draw against Malaga.

The Nou Camp was packed out with spectators waiting for the result that was just 90 minutes away if all went wrong. And they weren’t disappointed by the the match or the result, with a total of 4 goals for Barça. After the match the club put on quite a display, and each of the players had his turn with the mike, each thanking the crowd for their support.

As well as Pep Guardiola’s second league win in his two years with the club, it was Joan Laporta’s final league win as president. While he goes on to pursue a career in politics a new club president will be elected over the next few months and a new era will begin. Despite many criticisms, I just wonder if it will be anywhere near as glorious as Laporta’s.

The fight for La Liga goes to the last match

With the possibility that the league would be decided on Saturday night, Spain experienced the slightly weird sensation of all matches kicking of at 9p.m. to ensure no team had any kind of advantage from knowing things had gone better or worse elsewhere.

The real focus of the night were the matches between Sevilla and FC Barcelona; and Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao because with a Barça win, Madrid also needed to win their match to have any hope at taking the league title next week.

In the end Barcelona won their game 3-2, with goals from Messi, Bojan and Pedro; And Real Madrid really showed theat they haven’t given up, with a 5-1 victory against a 10 man Athletic Bilbao.

So, it all goes down to the final match of the league, when Barça play at home against Valladolid; and Real Madrid face Malaga.

Rain fails to make a splash on Barça

Leo Messi added another two goals to his tally for the season in Barcelona’s rain soaked win against Tenerife last night; currently he’s on target to take the Spanish and European title of leading goal scorer.

Tenerife is struggling in the relegation zone and put up a fight in the first half, with a 38th minute equaliser to show for it. However, after the break the Catalans were able to outclass them resulting in three more goals and a step closer to the Spanish league title.

Barça are now four points ahead of Real Madrid, who face Mallorca tonight.

1-0, Messi (min 16)
1-1, Román (min 38)
2-1, Bojan (min 63)
3-1, Pedro (min 77)
4-1, Messi (min 93)

Barça ensured it remained top of the Spanish league on Saturday night, with a 4-1 win against Villarreal. Messi was back on form with two goals, while Xavi and Bojan also made their mark.

On Sunday it was looking like Real Madrid might slip. However, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a last minute goal to ensure the Galacticos won 3-2. Madrid trail Barça by just a single point in the league, with just three matches to play.
