Barcelona took the top spot in Champions League group D last night after beating previous group leaders Copenhagen at the Nou Camp. Barça takes three points from Valencia

FC Barcelona beat league leaders Valencia on Saturday night thanks to goals from Iniesta and Puyol.

The visitors were the first to score after 37 minutes and nearly put a second goal past Valdes immediately after. However, that shock spurred Barça into action and Messi immediate went on the offensive.

Although the first half whistle cut that short, the Catalans started the second half meaning business. Iniesta scored almost immediately and while David Villa’s header failed to go in thanks to a great save, Barça captain Carles Puyol scored the second of the night for Barcelona and ensured the three points.

Barcelona are now second in the league after Real Madrid.

Single point for Barça against Mallorca

Posted on October 4th, 2010 by admin

Leo Messi scored Barcelona’s only goal against Mallorca, in a game that should have gone Barça’s way thanks to the opportunities in the first half, but ended with a 1-1 draw.

Of course, the Catalans were missing both Xavi through injury and Villa due to suspension after last weekend’s red card, but the squad boasts enough good players to make up for this deficit. However, it wasn’t to be and Real Madrid rubbed salt into their wound with a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu.

Not a disaster at this stage of the season, but could definitely do better.
