According to a Reuters article, Thierry Henry and Touré Yaya are to leave FC Barcelona. Henry agreed to the transfer before heading off to South Africa and France’s early exit from the competition – it was Henry’s unpunished handball against Ireland that put France through – and was widely expected owing to his lack of on pitch performance, which has seem him sit most matches out.

“Now it is up to him to complete it,” Barca director Joan Oliver said on the club website (www.fcbarcelona.com) after the last board meeting under outgoing president Joan Laporta This will allow Barca to save money on his wages in the next financial year.”

And it is understood that Touré Yaya requested a transfer; Barça has been negotiating with Man City over and move there.

Three more points in the bag for Barcelona

Posted on April 15th, 2010 by admin

Barcelona kept hold of all the points last night when Deportivo visited the Nou Camp. While the crowd was in a party mood after wins against Arsenal and Real Madrid, the players were looking a little tired for much of the match. However, a goal from Bojan in minute 15 put the home side one goal up.

And even though it sometimes looked as though Deportivo might score, in the end Barça really demonstrated why they are in the position they are, but continually grinding down the visitors until they got their second wind and gained two more goals.

Goal number 2 ame in the 68th minute, when Pedro lobbed the ball right over the defence and keeper and into the net; and then in the 72nd minute Toure Yaya scored. With their confidence restored, Barça’s energy reappeared and they continued to provide entertainment to the crowd until the final whistle blew.

The result puts Barça 6 points clear of Madrid, although they are playing Almeria tonight; they then play the Barcelona derby on Saturday, followed by Inter Milan on Tuesday for another busy week.

Barça and Racing to field under strength squads

Posted on February 18th, 2010 by admin

This weekend Barça faces Racing de Santander, with both teams fielding under strength squads. In the previous three matches, Barcelona has beaten Racing twice and drawn once. While Barcelona is suffering in midfield, which could be a danger against a full strength team, Racing’s own injury and suspensions may negate this deficiency.

For Barça the players almost certainly missing the match are Alves, Xavi, Keita and Abidal. Touré Yayá is also unlikely to play, although there is a slim possibility he’ll be fit.

It’s not all bad news though, as returning to Barça will be Piqué and Marquez, who sat the last match out due to suspension.

Keita returns from Africa

With Mali eliminated from the African Cup, Keita is due to return to training on Thursday, although Touré Yaya remains in Africa with the Ivory Coast. Also absent is Busquets, who is recovering from an injury sustained to his kidney.

The squad is heading to Valladolid for a match on Saturday night. Kickoff is at 20:00.
